My church says it already has discipleship training. What's different about what you have to offer?
The truth is most fellowships do say they have discipleship training, but the focus tends to be on obedience towards God, evangelizing and not developing a spiritually mature relationship with Him and all that He is. If you want to learn more about God and want to grow in grace, knowledge and fellowship with Him, then stick around for what we have to share with you!
What's the difference between being spirit-filled and spirit-led?
When you are born again spiritually, you are indwelled by God the Holy Spirit. When you are spirit-led, you follow His leading in whatever it is He has for you to be and do. Sometimes, you may go somewhere without understanding why, and when you get there, you find there's something you can do or someone you can help. Sometimes, He may speak to you directly or through the Bible and you will know His voice and message in that way.
What's the difference between a believer and a disciple of Christ?
It's a question of choices and spiritual maturity.
A believer accepts Christ as his or her Lord and Savior, and that's a great place to start! Also, a believer accepts gratefully what Christ has to give him or her.
A disciple goes further. He or she makes the choice to follow Jesus and the lead of the Spirit regardless of the circumstances in their lives. Doing and being what God has for them to do and be gives life meaning, purpose and the disciple a true sense of accomplishment.
Why have I had such a long season (months or years) of unemployment or underemployment? Is there something I should or should not be doing because God hasn't blessed me with the job I need?
We know God has a plan and purpose for everyone's life and that He equips and provides what is needed at the right time. Please understand that because you are still waiting for God to deliver you, it doesn't mean that you have to do or be anything. If you've given the problem to God, it's important to wait for His timing and not try to solve your problem under your own power. That's what got Abraham and Sarah into such trouble when they tried to birth the son of promise through Hagar.
So, the quick answer is to live Matthew 6:33 and trust in God's timing for your life. Ask God to help you be sensitive to God the Holy Spirit's leading in this and all areas of your life. We pray God will answer your prayers at the best time and in the very best way for you.
Why have I had such a long season (months, years) of sickness or pain in my life? Is it because of something I did or didn't do? Is that what's holding God back from healing me?
Most of the time, sickness and pain are not a result of disobedience to God and His way of life. God does promise to heal, and that's part of what Jesus' dying for us on the cross is all about. We don't know God's plan and purpose for your life, but we do know He promises healing, sometimes immediate and complete, sometimes delayed and partial, sometimes not at all in this life and sometimes progressively.
We also know that faith is a gift from God and that He is willing to give us the amount of faith that we need to do and be what He wants us to do and be. Please understand that your not being healed is not due to a lack of faith. Many times, God uses the sick and disabled inspite of what they humanly can't do, so you can always be useful to God and His kingdom.
The short answer is trust God for His timing and deliverance from your affliction. He hears your prayers and knows your needs and desires. We pray He won't wait 18 years like He did with the woman with the issue of blood, but if He does, we pray He grants you all you need to endure until then.
My fellowship teaches God created us so we can serve Him. Do you agree with that? What can you add?
We do agree that God created us to do and be what He wants us to do and be for Him and the work He gives us to do. But there's so very much more! God created us to love us, to be in relationship with us, and He so very much wants us to be in relationship with Him. That's why He gave us His law of love. Not only is He love, as scripture says, He shows us how to relate to Him.
Here's the exciting thing! Since Jesus told His disciples (followers) that is they have seen and known Him, they see and know the Father, and this means all you need to do is as the Spirit to guide your study of the Gospels and Jesus' interacting and relationships with those that followed Him. You'll see that He had different relationships with different disciples, from just being an approachable teacher and leader to sharing Himself with those that chose to pursue that kind of relationship with Him. So, it's your choice as to what kind of relationship you will have with God and all that He is, and he so very much looks forward to respecting your decision and fellowshipping with you in ways you have never before experienced!
I've been told that it's important to accept Jesus Christ both as my Savior and my Lord. I know what it means to accept Him as my Savior, that He died for my sins so I can be with Him forever. What does it mean to accept Him as Lord?
What a great question! Accepting Jesus as Lord means that you want Him to be in your life and that you want to follow Him like the original disciples did and many of us do today. It means accepting the life He has for us to live regardless of pain or hardship, and it means being and doing all that He has for us to be and do.
Most importantly, it means following His example while He lived among us in action and attitude.
My church teaches obedience is following the commandments in the Bible. Do you agree?
We agree that Jesus came to show us how to live and how to be love to God, others and self. What's missing is obediently following the lead of the Holy Spirit.
How long does it take to go from being a believer to a disciple?
There's no standard answer for this one because it depends on you and the Holy Spirit's plans for your growth in grace and knowledge. It takes some very little time such as weeks or months, and it takes others literally years.
